Rotator Cuff Repair in san antonio

What Is The Anatomy of The Shoulder?

The shoulder is a complex joint that consists of three bones - the humerus, scapula, and clavicle. The joint is further stabilized by the acromioclavicular ligament, biceps tendon, coracohumeral ligament, labrum, and rotator cuff muscles. The rotator cuff is composed of four muscles - supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis. These components connect the upper arm to the shoulder blade and helps provide stability for the shoulder when moving.

What is rotator cuff repair Surgery?

Rotator cuff repair is a surgical procedure used to treat rotator cuff tears. The tear occurs when one or more of the four muscles and tendons that make up the rotator cuff become damaged or weakened, resulting in pain and reduced range of motion in the shoulder. During the repair process, your surgeon will first identify and repair any damage to the rotator cuff muscles and tendons. Then, depending on the severity of the tear, they may use sutures or anchors to reattach the torn pieces. The goal of surgery is to restore full function and strengthen the shoulder joint.

What is the cause of a rotator cuff injury?

Rotator cuff injuries are common among athletes, the elderly, and manual laborers. This injury usually occurs due to repetitive motions or trauma. Overuse syndromes such as tendonitis and bursitis can contribute to damage or weaken the tendons. Poor posture and inadequate stretching before physical activities can also lead to injury. Heavy lifting, poor form when throwing or hitting an object, and muscle imbalances can cause direct trauma to the rotator cuff.
