Everything You Need… In One Place.
The Hand Center of San Antonio has served San Antonio for over 40 years. Founded by Dr. David P. Green, the Hand Center has cared for thousands of patients, trained more than 80 hand surgeons and educated countless others through research, national and international lectures and one of the most widely circulated textbooks on hand surgery.
The Hand Center is located on the 3rd Floor of the Texas Center for Athletes (TCA). A one-stop-shop, the TCA has on its lower level a pharmacy, an advanced imaging center and a same-day surgery center. In addition, The Hand Center has on-site x-ray capabilities, certified hand therapists, a minor procedure room and cast room. From diagnosis through treatment to recovery, the Hand Center has you covered.
When you visit us at the The Hand Center, you will find a fine-tuned team ready to take care of you. Your physicians have over 100 years of collective experience and represent multiple generations and training backgrounds. In addition to your surgeons, you may meet one of our hand surgery fellows. Each fellow is a fully trained orthopaedic or plastic surgeon who has completed 5 to 7 years of surgical training after graduation from medical school and has chosen to spend an additional year in training to study hand surgery. (Read "What is a Fellow?" to learn more.) In addition to the physicians, you will meet various staff members. From the front desk staff and Medical Assistants (MA’s) to the x-ray and cast technicians, each is committed to taking care of you. Click here to learn more about your physicians.
What is a Fellow?
The Hand Center includes a training program for future hand surgeons. Each year, three to four physicians spend 12 months learning hand surgery in this Center. Each fellow is a fully trained orthopaedic or plastic surgeon who has completed 5 to 7 years of surgical training after graduation from medical school and has chosen to spend an additional year in training to study hand and microvascular surgery. Competition for these fellowships is very intense, and The Hand Center is fortunate to be able to select only the most highly qualified candidates. The hand fellows are an important part of our patient care team, and you will get to know them in the course of your treatment. Though some of your care will be rendered by the fellows, this will be, at all times, under the direct supervision of our attending surgeons. Several of our graduates have gone on to academic jobs where they are engaged in teaching their own orthopaedic and plastic surgery residents. We are very proud of all our alumni, and we consider them part of our hand surgery family. Click here to learn more about our fellowship.
