Hand Center's Own Travels to Madrid, Spain!

One of the Hand Center's very own, Dr. James Saucedo, was invited to Madrid, Spain in mid May 2015 to lead a workshop on distal radius fracture fixation and ulnar shortening osteotomy. Dr. Saucedo presented on the evaluation and treatment of distal radius fractures with an emphasis on fixation principles and advanced fixation techniques. He also gave talks on ulnar sided wrist pain and ulnocarpal impaction. He led a hands-on sawbones workshop for young Spanish surgeons and residents and taught them step by step how to use special implants designed to fix various distal radius fracture patterns, as well as how to use an ulnar shortening osteotomy system. This workshop was hosted by TriMed, an orthopedic implant company founded by an orthopedic surgeon.

Later that week, he attended IACES 2015 - Madrid International Elbow Course - an international congress that focused on the evaluation and management of a multitude of elbow conditions. Topics ranged from sports injuries to arthritis to complex elbow trauma. Lecturers came from countries all over the world - USA, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, France and Spain, to name a few...

With this and his previous experiences in Spain, the friendships and connections Dr. Saucedo has made has placed the Hand Center in position for the development of a grand endeavor - the Spanish Exchange Program! The Spanish Exchange Program's will give Spanish residents from La Paz University Hospital in Madrid, Spain the opportunity to travel to San Antonio, Texas to rotate and train with our doctors at the Hand Center, further advancing their experience in hand surgery. Great job Dr. Saucedo!
