The spanish exchance elective
The Hand Center of San Antonio and El Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid, Spain are proud to announce their new Hand and Microvascular Surgery Elective.
About our spanish exchange program
Orthopaedic Surgery Residents from La Paz will have the opportunity to rotate through the Hand Center of San Antonio as a 1-2 month elective during their senior years of training.
They will observe the evaluation and treatment of common upper extremity problems in both the clinical and operating room setting, attend regularly scheduled lectures and participate in a weekly cadaver lab in which they will learn various approaches to the upper extremity, practice common procedures performed by hand surgeons and learn and apply basic microsurgical techniques.
They will rotate with each of our attending surgeons and have the opportunity to work with our fellows. At the end of their elective, they will be asked to present on a topic of their choice. Collaboration on research projects is available and encouraged but not required.
Our hope is to foster an interest in hand and microvascular surgery, teach basic principles and surgical skills, develop a system for international collaboration and create lasting friendships.
